Interactive, multi-media platform is mobile designed, allowing people to use the program and tools anytime, anywhere

Yardley, PA (November 21, 2016) – For nearly 40 years, the American Lung Association has been helping people successfully quit smoking through the most effective smoking cessation program in the country: Freedom From Smoking® Plus. Through a collaboration with StayWell, the non-profit organization has unveiled Freedom From Smoking® Plus, an online option that takes the proven successful program and makes it accessible to individuals anytime, anywhere through their smartphone, tablet or desktop. Through this new level of interconnectivity, the American Lung Association intends to help more people end their addiction to tobacco and start their smoke-free futures with a fully optimized e-learning experience.

“The journey to becoming tobacco-free is different for everyone. Freedom From Smoking® Plus makes it possible for people to find the tools and resources that meet their needs and lifestyle, making it more likely they will stick with the program and quit smoking for good,” said Harold Wimmer, national president and CEO of the American Lung Association.

StayWell, a health engagement company and a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc., Kenilworth, NJ, USA (“Merck”), has collaborated with the Lung Association since 2006. As part of this ongoing collaboration, StayWell brought its expertise in behavior change science and learning technology to the table to develop the Freedom From Smoking® Plus e-learning program. Freedom From Smoking® Plus is a reflection of changing consumer behaviors and StayWell’s broader expansion into digital platforms across its patient education and engagement and workplace health and well-being solutions.

“Tobacco use continues to be a key contributor to numerous health problems that can decrease a person’s quality of life and contribute to health care spending for individuals and businesses,” said Nicole Latimer, president, StayWell. “Freedom From Smoking® Plus is a highly engaging smoking cessation solution with features that include videos, quizzes and activities that appeal to broader consumer preferences. The new online experience expands access to the successful Freedom From Smoking® program and allows consumers to experience and receive health care information on platforms that suit their lifestyles, while leveraging best practices for online learning and behavior change.”
